Exploring Measurement- Grade 1

Our Grade 1 students have been busy with hands-on math! We’ve been learning about length, mass, and capacity by using fun words like longer, shorter, and holds more. We even took our jugs and buckets outside to the sandpit to see exactly how much sand each container could hold, making measurement a real-world adventure.

Our Community

Over the last two weeks, we’ve enjoyed visits from several local helpers! Mr. Brett (Ella’s dad) kicked things off by sharing his work as an Air Force Air Traffic Controller, explaining how he keeps planes safe. He also showed us his volunteer firefighter gear, teaching the students that firefighters help our community in many different ways, far beyond just putting out fires.

Our next visitor was our local Crossing Supervisor, Ms. Roberta, who gave us a great lesson on road safety. She shared stories from her job and showed us the tools of her trade, including her bright uniform, flags, stop sign, and whistle. The students learned two very important rules: always stop at the yellow line and wait to hear the whistle before stepping onto the road!

Our next guest was Leading Senior Constable James from the Somerville Police Station. He explained how the police keep us safe and what to do if we ever need help. The highlight of his visit was definitely the police car; the students loved seeing the flashing lights, hearing the sirens, and even getting the chance to sit inside!

Our final guests, Jordan, Patrice and Anna, joined us from Ventura Bus Company, who provide all the local buses around Frankston. The children learned how bus drivers help all people access public transport, including those who may need assistance getting on and off the bus. They also learnt how to use a Myki and travel safely when riding on a bus.
