In Mathematics, Foundation students are exploring how to partition whole numbers into two or three parts. While partitioning numbers up to 10, students were challenged to find all possible combinations and explain their reasoning. During this concrete learning stage, students physically manipulate objects to accurately count and identify these parts.

Students also continued developing their subitising skills using dot patterns, counters and dominoes to quickly recognise quantities and identify parts within a whole. They especially enjoyed using dominoes to explore different number combinations and represent their thinking in hands-on ways. Through these activities, students strengthened their understanding that numbers can be partitioned in many different ways while the total remains the same.
During Inquiry, students have been immersed in learning about animals and their habitats, with a focus on how we can care for living things and the environments they live in. We explored the unique features of the Platypus through videos and discussions, sharing ideas about how to protect the platypus and its habitat. Students also enjoyed viewing imaginative animal combinations and guessing which animals had been combined to create each one. They then drew their favourite imaginary animal, including details about where it might live, what it might eat, and how we could care for its home.

The students listened to the story and song "In the Beginning" by Andrew Chinn. This book describes the seven days of creation. In response to the story, the students chose one day from the creation story and recreated that day using a variety of craft materials. Then they retold the story using their days of the creation. During the week, we went on a walk around the school

Caring for Creation
Our students recently took their learning outdoors to celebrate God’s gifts! Equipped with handmade gift tags, the class explored the school grounds, "tagging" the natural beauty they encountered as special gifts from God. This hands-on activity sparked a deeper conversation about sustainability and stewardship. After reading books about our planet and viewing our Care for Our Common Home posters, students shared brilliant ideas for how we can better care for the environment and be active protectors of God’s creation.
