Sexual Health and Respectful Relationships (Year 9 HAPE)

During term 2, Year 9 students will be studying Sexual Health and Respectful Relationships as part of their Health and Physical Education program. This unit supports students to develop a strong understanding of consent, communication, and the importance of respect in all relationships. Students will explore topics including human reproduction, contraception, and sexually transmitted infections (STIs), as well as how to access reliable health services. The unit allows students to examine how media and online content can influence attitudes towards relationships, and encourages students to think critically about respect, empathy, power, and coercion. In addition, students will learn about the impact of violence, discrimination, and inequality in relationships, and develop strategies to promote inclusion and support others. All content is delivered in a safe, inclusive, and age-appropriate environment, with a focus on building students’ confidence to make informed, respectful, and healthy decisions.

Maths In Motion

Year 9 students in the Maths in Motion elective have been engaging in an exciting investigation using paper planes. They are exploring how different design features affect flight distance, time, and speed, applying mathematical concepts such as measurement, data collection, and analysis. This hands-on approach is helping students deepen their understanding of motion while building problem-solving and critical thinking skills.

In Math in Motion, our assessment was about paper planes, and the assessment was nice and engaging because we got to test out paper planes that we made in class, and later, we had to calculate our data about the paper airplanes and write it into a sheet.

In Math in Motion, we did a paper plane assignment, it included distance, time and speed. We had to find the average of each and compare with each other. It was a fun and engaging since we worked as a team. I really enjoy Math in Motion

This term we explore how motion of a plane works by calculating time, speed and distance as our assignment. Maths is motion has lot of engaging activity like we walk around the school to explore things around us that has motion it.

The plane assessment, was fun i enjoyed going out-door, collecting data while also having to compete with other paper planes. Furthermore, we also made a poster with the use of our paper plane analysis we did outdoor based on the instructions that were given on the assessment task. it was easy and overall, it was fun.

Dumpling Making Session

This year’s Chinese Cultural Day at Brinbeal featured our dumpling-making session. Students were very excited to participate in this activity, which turned out to be a highly engaging and successful learning experience. During the session, students learned how to fold traditional dumplings, working with two different fillings: halal beef and a vegetarian option of cabbage and carrot. They followed the teacher’s instructions carefully, demonstrated enthusiasm, and showed great teamwork while practising the folding techniques. Most students were able to create well-formed dumplings by the end of the session, and their willingness to try something new contributed to a very positive and enjoyable learning environment.
