Term 3 Interschool Sport

Year 7 Interschool Sports Day

Our Year 7 students had a fantastic day representing the school at Interschool Sports, competing in both basketball and table tennis. It was a great opportunity for students to take the skills, strategies and teamwork they had developed in their Sport Education classes and put them into practice in a competitive setting.

Our two mixed basketball teams had a great day on the court, demonstrating excellent teamwork and working hard for each other throughout their games. Students communicated well, supported their teammates and showed great sportsmanship, with plenty of exciting moments across the day.

Our five table tennis teams also put in a strong performance. The teams brought immense enthusiasm, energy and determination to their matches and continued to work hard, even when faced with challenging opponents. It was fantastic to see the students’ confidence grow as they applied the skills they had been practising during our Sport Education lessons.

The B basketball team had some great wins across the day, and the A team put up a strong fight, coming aginst some tough schools.

The table tennis team did exceptionally well. The A team made it all the way to the semi finals, showing great coordination, communication and effort.

Beyond the results, the day was a fantastic experience for our students. They represented the school with enthusiasm, teamwork and sportsmanship, and it was wonderful to see them encouraging one another and embracing the opportunity to compete.

A special thank you also goes to our fantastic student leaders who supported the Year 7 teams throughout the day. Montie, James, Brodie (Year 10),  Jagger and Josh (Year 9) took on the responsibility of umpiring, while Tate (Year 10) and Ally and Greta (Year 9) attended as student helpers and coaches. Their willingness to give up their time, support younger students and help the day run smoothly was greatly appreciated.

A huge congratulations to all of our Year 7 students who participated, and thank you for the effort they put into their training in the lead-up to the day. Well done, Year 7.

Developing Sporting Leaders

Our school’s sporting program is not only about providing students with opportunities to participate as players, but also about developing their sporting leadership skills and giving students the opportunity to make a positive contribution to others.

This term, over two days, 13 students stepped up to put their sporting leadership skills into practice by assisting Warrandyte Primary School with their Grade 3/4 and Grade 5/6 Hooptime competitions. Throughout the day, students were responsible for coaching and scoring a team, supervising and managing their team and helping to ensure the primary school students had a successful and enjoyable experience.

The feedback from Warrandyte Primary School staff was extremely positive. Students were described as being extremely reliable, showing terrific initiative, managing their teams professionally and being outstanding role models for the younger students. Their sporting leadership played an important role in ensuring that many of the primary school students were able to participate in the competition.

The excellent rapport developed throughout the day was clear, with several primary school students commenting that they would love to have the high school students coach them again at future interschool sports events.

We are incredibly proud of the leadership, initiative and positive example you demonstrated within our wider school community.
