Strengthening Teaching and Learning

The staff at Warrandyte High School have continued to build our understanding and practice around effective teaching and learning, with a particular focus on creating classrooms where every student has regular opportunities to engage, respond and succeed.

A key area of professional learning this term has been ‘Opportunities to Respond’, and the important role of active supervision in supporting positive classroom environments. These practices are helping staff to be increasingly intentional about how they engage students and make learning visible in the classroom.

An exciting part of this work has been our focus on collegial observation and reflective practice. Teachers have been working alongside their colleagues to observe lessons, share feedback and unpack different approaches to teaching. Some staff have also taken the opportunity to film themselves teaching with no students captured on camera, providing a valuable opportunity to review their own practice and engage in meaningful professional dialogue with colleagues. This willingness to be reflective, open and curious about our teaching is an important part of building a strong culture of continuous improvement.

We have also been fortunate to work closely with Inclusion Outreach Coaches Inna Loueva and Claire Merison, who are both Learning Specialists. They are supporting our ongoing focus on Disability Inclusion and diverse learners. Inna and Claire have worked with staff through a number of professional learning sessions, provided support within classrooms and collaborated behind the scenes with our Implementation Team to strengthen inclusive teaching practices across the school.

Together, these initiatives reflect our commitment to creating an inclusive and responsive learning environment for all students. By continuing to learn from research, from one another and from our own classroom practice, our staff are working collectively to ensure that every student is supported to engage meaningfully in their learning.
