The Feast of the Assumption – Mary, a Woman of Faith and Courage
On 15 August, the Church celebrates the Feast of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary, one of the most significant Marian feasts in the Catholic calendar. The feast celebrates the belief that, at the end of her earthly life, Mary was taken body and soul into the glory of heaven.
For us as a Loreto community, Mary is much more than a figure from history. She is a woman whose life speaks powerfully of faith, courage, trust and wholehearted commitment. Mary responded to God’s call with an openness that changed the course of her life: “Let it be done to me according to your word.” Her willingness to say yes, even when the path ahead was uncertain, continues to inspire us. The Assumption invites us to look beyond Mary’s earthly life and recognise the hope at the heart of our Christian faith, that our lives have a purpose, and that God is present with us in every season.
As we celebrate the Feast of the Assumption on Saturday, may Mary remind our students to have the courage to say yes to the possibilities before them, to trust themselves, to trust in God, and to use their gifts in the service of others.

Year 10 Reflection Day
Our Year 10 students recently gathered for a day of reflection, connection and joy, exploring the Loreto value of Felicity.
Students then had the opportunity to hear from two inspiring presenters from the Catholic Office for Youth and Young People, who shared their experiences and perspectives on faith, life and friendships. Their conversations encouraged students to consider the people, experiences and choices that bring genuine joy and fulfilment to their lives.
Through conversation, activities and personal reflection, students were encouraged to consider that felicity is more than simply being happy – it is about discovering a deeper sense of joy, purpose, connection and hope.
It was a wonderful opportunity for our Year 10 students to slow down, connect with each other and reflect on what helps them to live life with greater joy, gratitude and purpose.

Junior School Liturgies
Since the beginning of term, the Junior School community has celebrated several special liturgies, including Mary Ward International Day, Wellness Week, the Feast of the Assumption of Mary, and St Clare’s Feast Day. Each liturgy was beautifully led by different classes and provided an opportunity for our community to gather in prayer and reflection.
Social Justice Leaders
Last Tuesday, our Social Justice Leaders attended a Leadership Day, where they connected with other primary school leaders from across Adelaide. It was a valuable experience that encouraged collaboration, leadership growth, and the sharing of ideas to make a positive difference within school communities.
Throughout the day, the girls reflected on the gifts of our Loreto community in light of our Catholic faith and recognised the unique gifts they bring to their leadership roles. It was a wonderful experience, and they returned to Loreto Junior School with renewed enthusiasm and inspiration, eager to put their ideas into action and continue making a positive contribution to our community.
