Girls Claiming Space

Our staff Professional Learning on Tuesday afternoons provides an opportunity to pause, reflect and sharpen our focus on what matters most for our students. This week, we explored a simple but powerful idea: how do we encourage our girls to claim the space? 

More than simply speaking up, this is about helping girls feel comfortable taking up physical space, contributing ideas, asking questions, leading conversations and being seen and heard. Research into girls’ education highlights the importance of creating environments where girls develop the confidence and agency to occupy space – literally and figuratively.

As we continue to strengthen our understanding of best practice in girls’ education, this will remain a priority in our classrooms, with small, intentional changes helping students develop these habits over time.

Over the remainder of the year, this will be something we continue to notice and work on deliberately: the way we arrange a classroom, how students offer feedback, and how claiming physical space connects to our journey of developing strong, confident and passionate young women.
