Knockout Sport Information
Netball
What an exciting day of netball at Loreto College on Monday 10 August!
Congratulations to our Year 9/10 team, who secured a fantastic win against Unity to progress through to the School Sport SA Knockout Netball Finals.
Our Year 7/8 team also put up a great fight, winning their game against Unity before narrowly missing out on a place in the finals after a thrilling game that went to overtime and was decided by just one goal!
We are incredibly proud of all our players and the way they represented Loreto throughout the day. Well done, girls!
Soccer
On Friday 7 August, our Knockout Soccer team travelled to Sacred Heart College to compete in the Division 1 Knockout competition.
The team played three fantastic games, securing a win against Scotch College and facing two penalty shootouts against Sacred Heart College and Brighton High School. While we narrowly missed out on progressing to Round 2, it was wonderful to watch our students compete with such skill, determination and sportswomanship against a very high standard of opposition.
Congratulations to all of our Knockout Soccer players on a fantastic effort! We are incredibly proud of the way you represented Loreto College.
AFLW
Well done to our Years 7–9 Knockout Football team, who won both of their Round 1 games to progress to the next round of the competition.
The girls showed incredible determination and resilience, coming from three goals down to secure a thrilling one-point victory in the final minute of the first game!
Congratulations to the whole team on a fantastic effort. We look forward to seeing what you can achieve in the next round!
Cross Country
Congratulations and thank you to the Loreto students who represented the College in the SASS Cross Country Relay on Wednesday 12 August. Despite the wet and slippery conditions, the students showed great determination and resilience, giving their best and doing Loreto proud. Well done to all involved!
Intercol Competition
Our annual intercollegiate competition between Mary Mackillop College and Loreto College will take place on Wednesday 26 August, 4:00pm – 6:15pm at Mary MacKillop College. This event strengthens the shared community between our two schools. We cannot wait to see the Loreto community come together in support of our teams, showcasing the Loreto spirit. We hope to see many of you there cheering our teams on.
Pink Round
On Saturday 1 August, School Sport Associations SAAS, SACSSGSA and IGSSA united for a special Pink Round in support of Australians affected by breast cancer.
Players, officials, supervisors and spectators proudly wore pink to raise awareness, spark important conversations around breast screening and show support for the more than 20,000 women and men diagnosed with breast cancer in Australia each year.
It was fantastic to see so many of our families getting involved and embracing the pink spirit to support this important cause!
Student Achievements
Congratulations to Bella (Year 7), who has been selected to represent Athletics SA as part of the National Cross Country Team!
She will race in Ballarat at the end of August and is very excited for the opportunity to compete at a national level. We are so proud of you and wish you all the very best for your race!
Congratulations to Mia (Year 8) who not only represented SA in the State Football Championships but was also awarded School Sports Australia Sportsmanship Award for SA. Well done, Mia, we are so proud of you!

Catholic Schools Cross Country Event
Well done to all students who represented Loreto at last week’s Catholic Primary Schools Cross Country event!
It is one of the largest events on our sporting calendar, with 60 schools and over 2000 participants competing. The runners took on a challenging 2km track that winds its way through the east parklands. Our runners gave it everything, and it was lovely to see them cheer each other on, share in each other’s successes and put arms around those exhausted after their race.
Well done to Tatum (4G) who picked up a silver medal in the Year 4 Division A race!
There are large fields for each race, with over 100 runners in the Division A events and close to 200 runners in the Division B events. These Loreto runners managed to gain top 30 placings:
Year 6 Division A – Colette C: 23rd, Amelia O: 25th
Year 5 Division B – Summer S: 23rd
Year 5 Division A – Emily D: 7th, Sophia R: 12th, Alessia H: 18th, Georgia H: 27th
Year 4 Division A – Tatum Y: 2nd, Emma O: 19th, Flora K: 20th, Ivy D: 24th, Ruby VB: 28th
Year 3 Division B – Eloise: 17th
Year 3 Division A – Lisa W: 21st, Annabelle M: 30th
Thank you to Ms Powell and Ms White for organising our runners and to all the family members who lent support.
SAPSASA Soccer
Well done to Alexis (6B) who represented East Adelaide in the SAPSASA State Soccer Carnival last week. On Day 3, Alexis switched between centre back and as a central defensive midfielder, with the team not conceding a single goal while she was on the field. East Adelaide finished in 4th place out of 9 teams, after moving up from Division 2 to Division 1 this year.
SAAS Cross Country Relay
Well done to our Cross Country relay teams who competed in the SAAS event on Wednesday. Teams of four took on the terrain at Waite Oval, Urrbrae, with each runner having to negotiate a wet, muddy 2km course. Colette, Georgia, Tatum and Emily finished in 3rd place to win the bronze medal.
Loreto Swish First Win
Our Year 3 basketballers enjoyed their first win of the season, holding on for a 20–16 win at Wilderness School in an exciting game. All players contributed to the win: Sienna rebounded strongly, Elouise picked up the game quickly in her first match, Lola was very unselfish with her passing, and Poppy and Pearl were sinking baskets from everywhere. The team had been planning their first victory celebration for a while, launching into a choreographed “chicken dance” after the final buzzer.
Local Netball Derby
Last Saturday, our Year 4 Orange and Year 4 Purple netball teams played against each other at Maylands. It was terrific to see the game played in such good spirits. The Orange team ran out winners by a couple of goals, then the teams sang the song together and joined for a group photo.
Soccer – Six From Six
It’s been a strong start to Term 3 for our soccer teams, with the Year 4 Gold, Year 5 Blue and Year 6 White teams all starting with two wins from two games. The Year 6 White team were 1-0 down at half time against St Peters Girls School before rallying in the second half. Harper equalised just after the break, tucking away her right-footed shot through a crowded penalty area. Then with time running out, Scarlett wove her way through traffic for the winner.
