Grade 5/6 students were delighted to welcome Amelia Mellor, author of our class text The Grandest Bookshop in the World, to our learning space. Amelia shared fascinating photographs of the real Cole’s Book Arcade and brought along historical treasures, including original tokens and copies of Cole’s Funny Picture Book that were more than 100 years old. Students had the opportunity to ask plenty of questions about her books, characters, research, and writing process, before Amelia generously signed copies of her books. It was a wonderful experience that brought our class novel study to life and inspired our young readers and writers!

Yesterday we celebrated Pop of Purple Day, where students joined together to promote kindness, inclusion, and positive relationships. In 5/6L, we came up with some role plays to explore bullying situations and practise helpful anti-bullying strategies, before contributing to a whole-class paper chain filled with ways we can role model friendly behaviours and choose kindness in our everyday interactions. Plus Ms. Lisa looked amazing in her very natural purple wig!

In Performing Arts, 5/6L have been putting their dance skills to the test as we learn a routine to Can’t Stop the Feeling! Students are working on timing, coordination, movement and performing together as a group, with plenty of energy and enthusiasm along the way. As you can see, we've been working on our performance smiles too! With a bit of luck and a lot of hard work, we'll have a completed piece ready by the end of the term.
