Year 9 & 10 Disease and Discovery

In our new BEST subject, Disease and Discovery, students have been learning about pathogens, including bacteria, and how antibiotics work to eradicate bacterial infections.

Students completed their first PBL investigation this week. They grew E. coli on agar plates, applied different antibiotic discs and then measured the zone of inhibition to determine which antibiotics E. coli is resistant or sensitive to. Students then created a scientific poster to present their findings and link their investigation to the broader issue of antibiotic misuse and resistance.
