Principal's Report

The past fortnight at Beaumaris Secondary College has been rich with opportunities for learning, leadership and community connection across all year levels.
Leadership Assemblies
Three weeks ago, we began our Leadership Assemblies, delivered across two weeks. These assemblies provided an important opportunity to formally acknowledge our 2026 Student Leaders and reflect on what leadership means at Beaumaris Secondary College. Drawing on the inspiring example of Australian astronaut Katherine Bennell-Pegg, and the powerful message from Bianca Chatfield about the importance of “showing up” every day, I encouraged students to lead with curiosity, optimism, respect and excellence, and to remember the powerful truth that we are all in this together. My address also emphasised self-leadership — showing up each day with purpose, surrounding ourselves with supportive people and, above all, leading with kindness. It was a timely reminder that leadership at Beaumaris is not defined by a badge alone, but by the choices and actions we take every day. Families who wish to read the full address can access it via the link below.
We also took the opportunity to include House presentations, building momentum and school spirit ahead of our Swimming Carnival.
Year 7 High Abilities Information Session
Our Year 7 High Abilities Information Session, held on Thursday 19 February, provided families with valuable insight into the pathways and programs available to support high-ability learners at Beaumaris. Thank you to Ms Casley for her expertise and leadership in delivering this session and for the care taken to ensure our newest families feel informed and supported.
Year 12 Formal
On Friday 20 February, our Year 12 Formal was held at the beautiful Lakeside Pavilion in Albert Park — a memorable milestone in our students’ final year. I extend my sincere thanks to our dedicated Student Formal Committee for their outstanding work in bringing the evening together. Events such as this reflect the pride and belonging that characterise our college community.
ICT Tools Workshop for New Families
We were also pleased to host our New Families ICT Tools Workshop on Thursday 26 February. Thank you to Ms Kirk for guiding families through the digital platforms that support learning and communication at Beaumaris. Clear partnerships between home and school are essential, and evenings like this strengthen those connections.
House Swimming Carnival
Our House Swimming Carnival on Wednesday 25 February was a fantastic display of House spirit, participation and encouragement. Thank you to Mr Pinto for his organisation and to all staff who supported the day. It was wonderful to see students embracing both competition and camaraderie.
Progress Reports
Progress Reports were made available to families via Compass last Friday. These reports provide an important opportunity for students and parents to reflect on learning progress so far this semester, including feedback on achievement and approach to learning.
I encourage families to take the time to review the report together and use the feedback as a basis for positive conversations about goals, growth and next steps.
Student Leadership Conference
On Tuesday 3 March, our student leaders attended our annual Student Leadership Conference, an important opportunity to develop their skills in service, responsibility and teamwork. We were pleased to welcome student leaders from neighbouring primary schools, reinforcing our shared commitment to developing confident and capable young leaders. My thanks to Ms Hunter-Smith and Mr Ardi for organising this valuable experience. At Beaumaris, leadership is grounded in action and integrity, and we look forward to seeing the positive impact of this learning throughout the year.
Community Connections
Well done to our 2025 Year 12 VCE Vocational Major students who organised a successful sausage sizzle at last year’s House Athletics Carnival in support of the Beaumaris Children’s Playhouse. Yesterday, the college was featured in a social media post by the Playhouse celebrating its new cubby village, which we were pleased to share across our own channels. Projects such as these reflect the strong connections between the college and local community organisations and provide valuable opportunities for students to contribute beyond the classroom.
Last Friday, a group of our Year 10 students volunteered on behalf of Kiwanis at the Moorabbin Bunnings BBQ, playing an active role in supporting local community initiatives through fundraising efforts. The experience provided students with a valuable opportunity to develop teamwork, communication and customer service skills, while contributing positively to the broader community. We thank them for representing the college with enthusiasm and respect.
Supporting Our Year 12 Students
This evening, we look forward to welcoming our Year 12 parents and carers for the Supporting Your Year 12 Student session. The final year of schooling is both exciting and demanding, and working in partnership with families is key to ensuring our students are well supported.
International Women’s Day
As we approach International Women’s Day, we acknowledge the important contributions of women and girls within our college and broader community. This year’s theme invites us to reflect on progress, challenge stereotypes and continue striving for equity in all aspects of life and learning.
2026 Curriculum Contributions Reminder
Thank you to the many families who have already made, or opted into, a payment plan for their child’s 2026 Curriculum Contributions. Your support directly enhances the educational opportunities we are able to provide.
Families yet to finalise 2026 Curriculum Contribution arrangements are encouraged to do so via Compass or contact the office for assistance.
I hope you enjoy the long weekend and the opportunity to spend time with family and friends.
Mr Stephen Bourbon
