Helping your Child Learn to Read

On Monday, parents in Foundation to Grade 2 were invited to attend the Reading Helpers Information Session. The information session focussed on –

  • explaining the steps involved in students learning to read
  • how to support your child to learn to read at home
  • what strategies you can use when your child gets stuck on a word

Below is a picture and a PDF copy that can be downloaded of the Reading Strategies for Early Readers.

How to become a parent volunteer and/or a Reading Helper in the classroom at BPPS

We greatly value the support of our parent community, and we always welcome volunteers who would like to assist students with reading in the classroom.

To do this, all volunteers are required to have a Working With Children’s Check (WWCC) and complete the school induction process BPPS Volunteer and Induction online registration.

Parent Helpers for reading are welcome on the following mornings in each of the Foundation to Grade 2 classrooms from 9am, commencing on Tuesday 10th March (after the public holiday).  Links to each classroom sign-up sheet are below. If you can help one day a week or even if it is just a once off, you are more than welcome to assist.

Remember to sign in and out of the office on the days you are helping in the classroom.
