The Norwood Production Ensemble has just performed Oliver! for their first live audience (the tech run had an exclusive audience of soft toys and teddy bears!). Over 300 grade 5–6 students from local primary schools and a discerning group of VIPs from Chirnside Views Residential Aged Care Facility attended our preview matinee on Wednesday and rewarded the whole team with rapturous applause!
Our leads are phenomenal, exhibiting talent, dedication, and commitment beyond imagining. They are brilliantly held and elevated (both metaphorically and literally for the title role!) by the supporting cast and chorus, whose commitment to the world they build and inhabit is breathtaking at times! In the orchestra pit, we have an immensely talented selection of our finest music students playing alongside our wonderful instrumental staff and professional musicians under the exacting and encouraging direction of Mark Bradley. And behind the scenes, our costumed stage and tech crew keep the show moving seamlessly.
It is always a great honour to collaborate with Norwood’s fabulously talented students and dedicated staff in the realisation of our annual musical productions, and this year is no exception. The sense of community, connection and achievement is certain to be held among our students’ most cherished and profound memories.
Oliver! is an enormous show, brimming with love, drama, laughs, and so many classic and well-loved tunes, and our Norwood students deliver with aplomb. You are sure to love and delight in the big chorus numbers like ‘Food, Glorious Food!’, ‘Consider Yourself at Home’, ‘Oom-Pah-Pah’ and ‘Who Will Buy?’, which are filled with joyous harmonies and exquisite choreography. And you will be amused and deeply moved by many of the more intimate songs such as ‘I Shall Scream!’, ‘Where is Love?’, ‘Pick a Pocket’, ‘Fine Life’, ‘I’d Do Anything’, ‘My Name’, ‘As Long as He Needs Me’, and ‘Reviewing the Situation’.
