Intergenerational Community Service Program - Year 9

On Thursday 21 August, students from 9A represented Norwood Secondary College in the Year 9 Intergenerational and Community Service Program. This initiative provides students with the chance to connect with residents in local aged community facilities, strengthening ties and building understanding across generations.

Half of the group visited Warrandyte Gardens, where they joined in a lively concert, dancing and singing with residents. They also helped with the final round of the footy tipping competition, sharing plenty of laughs and conversation.

The other half travelled to Chirnside Views Aged Care, where students rotated through a variety of activities. These included games of Bocchi and Wii Sports (the residents proved almost impossible to beat). Students also took part in arts and crafts and joined discussion circles where both the students and residents shared something about themselves.

The afternoon was filled with energy, smiles, and connection. Staff at both Warrandyte Gardens and Chirnside Views commented on how engaged, respectful, and enthusiastic our students were. The residents also clearly enjoyed themselves, with laughter and conversation flowing throughout the visits.

We are incredibly proud of the way 9A conducted themselves. Their willingness to participate, their maturity in engaging with residents, and their ability to bring energy and warmth into every activity reflected Norwood's values. They not only represented the College with distinction but also showed the positive impact young people can have within the community.

We now look forward to seeing 9C take part in the program on Thursday 4 September.
