Partnership with Melbourne Uni

Partnership with Melbourne University, Dr Catherine Smith Senior Lecturer in Wellbeing Science Faculty of Education.

On Monday the 27th of April, Dr Catherine Smith from Melbourne University came on her second day of onsite collaboration with the students and staff of Taylors Lakes Secondary College to deliver a learning experience, Ai Future Builders

Dr Smith developed the game to bring together multiple elements of AI regarding the issues of trust, environment and economic/social growth. She generously spent her time supporting the staff prior to this by making resources available and liaising with the 5 teachers involved in this new interdisciplinary project that aims to explore how AI can be used by Australia for economic, scientific, social and ethical purposes.

Through participation in the game, students were able to challenge their thinking about ways to engage with AI to build their understanding of the potential and challenges faced by the workforce, government and society.

Dr Smith is partnering with the staff and students through analysis of the students’ proposals and then providing feedback for ongoing learning and refinement.

Additionally, she is helping the students connect with other colleagues at Melbourne University and beyond who can give insight into where students can broaden their understanding of this topic.  She will return later in the term to engage in assessment of the students’ presentations.
