ENGAGEMENT IN THE MIDDLE YEARS CONFERENCE 31/3/26

On Tuesday the 31st of March, Brodie Ibrahim and Mia Bonacci of Year 9 attended the Engagement in the Middle Years Conference at RMIT University.

The event focused on ways to improve student involvement in learning and student voice was a major part of the discussion. A range of educational experts created the conference, including: David Loader a pioneering Australian educator best known for his groundbreaking role in creating the world's first laptop classroom as principal of Methodist Ladies College (MLC)

This is an excerpt of the event: The conference, organised by the Institute for Educational Reform (IER), is an opportunity for 60 invited stakeholders working in sectors related to teaching, youth wellbeing, parenting, education research, youth culture and community to examine concerns related to the engagement of middle years students at school in Victoria.

Young people, aged between 12 – 16, will participate in the event. The conference is designed to examine lived experiences, research insights, and innovations in practice. The day will centre on shared dialogue and problem-solving, with a report synthesising key perspectives and ideas for change circulated to all participants.
