Hands On Learning

On our first day back for Term 2, and we started things off with a toolbox chat to discuss the exciting plans and events ahead for the term.
Students had a productive start, creating serving platter boards for a special person, preparing timber for an upcoming project, and crafting additional wooden serving boards which are available for purchase.
Looking ahead, we are excited for our upcoming DIY visit to Bunnings later this term.
On 14 May, we will also be visiting Yaluk Barring Park to meet Ben and Kai, where students will have the opportunity to create habitat pods using natural biodegradable materials.
We also enjoyed hearing about the holiday adventures of our team members. A special congratulations to Sophia M, who spent her break in Bermagui and successfully caught an impressive 90kg Striped Marlin!
Yaluk Barring Park
The HOL group have an ongoing liaison with the Yaluk Barring Park which may be only ten minutes from the College but which encloses a wonderful flora and fauna reserve.
Our contact, Ranger Ben, takes the group through an ongoing variety of practical tasks while also explaining the cultural history and ongoing importance of the area.
Most recently we have been creating wire mesh enclosures to protect the newly planted native trees. The group also created "Insect Hotels" in an old tree.
Bunning mosaic art
The HOL group attended a student DIY at Watergardens Bunnings. Our host, Chantelle, provided a great creativity based session where the class were given the resources to make a terracotta bowl enclosed mosaic of their own design.
The students really enjoyed the opportunity and will take home their finished work. The College's ongoing liaison with Bunnings is something we all look forward to and which is greatly appreciated.
