VCE Music Excursion and Recital

As part of their preparation for VCE Music Performance Outcome 2: Creating, the VCE Music students attended the International Jazz Day concert at Hanson Dyer Hall, Melbourne Conservatorium of Music on 28 April.
Students observed leading Australian jazz artists demonstrating improvisation, ensemble interaction and expressive communication in a live professional setting. The experience directly supported students’ preparation for their own improvisation assessment tasks including 12 Bar Blues, Fadeout Line and Colours.
Following the excursion, students presented their VCE Music Evening Recital in PA1 on 13 May. The recital was very well attended by parents, families and senior student supporters despite the busy assessment period across the senior school. Students performed a wide range of repertoire and styles, demonstrating significant growth in confidence, musicianship and stagecraft.
A particular highlight was seeing several students perform publicly for the very first time. Some students only recently began learning an instrument after commencing VCE Music, making their achievement especially commendable.
Throughout the semester, senior music students participated in regular public performances approximately every six weeks to gradually build performance confidence, communication skills and recital readiness.
Students would like to thank Mr Dedes for accompanying them during the excursion and for supporting opportunities that extend learning beyond the classroom. Special thanks also to the instrumental music teachers for their ongoing support in preparing students for performance throughout the semester.
Congratulations to all VCE Music students for the professionalism, courage and dedication they demonstrated throughout both the excursion and recital preparation process.
