ANZAC Day Assembly

ANZAC DAY SERVICE

On 24th April, staff and students gathered for a special ANZAC Day service, commemorating the 111th anniversary of the Gallipoli landing and honouring the sacrifice of the ANZACs during World War I. ANZAC Day now serves to recognise all servicemen and women who have served, or continue to serve, in the armed forces. The service was conducted as a solemn and respectful occasion to honour those who gave their lives for our freedom.

We were privileged to welcome a special guest, Mr Anthony Callinan, Co-President of Rotary Manningham City. Mr Callinan delivered a thoughtful address and led the assembly in the recitation of The Ode.

The catafalque party, under the guidance of Ewan Wheeler, opened the commemorations with a dignified entry and concluded the service with their formal dismount.

The service upheld important traditions, including the playing of The Last Post, followed by one minute of silence and The Rouse. Proceedings concluded with the New Zealand and Australian national anthems.

All staff and students are to be commended for their respectful and dignified participation in the service.

School Captains

The service featured a number of student speakers, including the school captains, vice captains, house captains and SRC representatives. These students delivered the Acknowledgement of Country, reflected on the significance of the ANZAC legacy, and presented a reading of the poem In Flanders Fields. All speakers demonstrated confidence and respect, and we commend them for their efforts.

Medals

A highlight of the service was the presentation of ANZAC medals to one student from each section of the school. These awards recognise students who consistently embody the ANZAC values of mateship, resilience, courage and respect. This year’s recipients were Joanna H (Junior School), Ruby B (Middle School) and Declan S (Senior School). It was wonderful to have their families in attendance to share in this special recognition. Congratulations to all award recipients.
