MS Concert Orchestra Full Steam Ahead!

On Friday 24 November the combined Middle School Concert Band and Middle School Strings (and appropriately named the Middle School Concert Orchestra) performed at Lakeside Station on the world-famous Puffing Billy steam train line. The 60 students enjoyed the ride from Belgrave station before alighting and setting up the orchestra in time for the arrival of the second train. The tourists on this train were greeted by the joyous sounds of music, which was occasionally accompanied by the whistles from the locomotive.

Christmas Carols Success

In a somewhat busy time towards the end of the year, over 80 musicians from Middle School and Senior School (and some staff) combined forces to accompany the choirs and community at the wonderful; Carols event that was organised by the P&F. With the postponement from Friday to last Tuesday due to the predicted weather, we were blessed with the perfect temperature for an outdoor performance. Given the fact that only one rehearsal transpired for the Carols Orchestra, it was very pleasing to produce such a high quality of musicianship to accompany the community singing. Our featured soloist was Alena P who stole the show with a beautiful rendition of Love is Christmas. Planning has already commenced for next year’s Carols in the Quad!

Jazz Band to evolve in 2024!

Next year we are expanding the highly successful HT Jazz Band to include more players, and in doing so we will have the instrumentation of the standard ‘Big Band’. This ensemble type in its fullest form includes five saxophones, four trumpets, four trombones and a rhythm section comprising of piano, bass, drums, guitar and auxiliary percussion. This combination has the flexibility to perform many genres, including swing, blues, pop, latin and more. We look forward to watching their progress next year and beyond.

Places are filling fast for Private Music Tuition for 2024. If you are interested in taking up private lessons on an instrument, please contact Jo at music@huntingtower.vic.edu.au. Students currently enrolled in lessons are assumed to be continuing in 2024 unless otherwise advised.
