From the Principal

"As iron sharpens iron, so one person sharpens another." (Proverbs: 27:17)

Our interactions with people matter. We improve and enrich each other’s lives.

I would like to take the opportunity to wish all Huntingtower families and friends a safe and merry festive season. Wherever your attention is drawn, may your days be filled with the warmth that comes with the companionship of others.

At our final assembly, I challenged students with the task of adopting some of what they learnt about valuing connections into the holidays. In particular, I asked students to consider how they communicate with their family and friends, and the role texts, posts and curated images play in this. Although these platforms serve a purpose, we all know they lack the complexity of face–to–face conversations. Too often we substitute breadth for depth.

With the aim of becoming more mindful of our behaviours, perhaps we could catch up with our friends in person or use snail mail to send a card to someone important. The idea of undertaking a 24hr digital detox challenge, where screen time is substituted with activities like cards, sport and crafts, is also a possibility.

The New Testament offers this advice:

And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds, not giving up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another..: (Hebrews 10: 24-25)

The passage stresses the importance of coming together to share our experiences and the role this plays in building relationships.

Whether you decide to take up UNO, indulge in some backyard cricket or attend a church service together, I hope you find a moment over the break to draw those you hold dear near.

I wish you all a happy and safe festive season. God bless you all.
