This year, our Year 10 Work Experience Program reached a record milestone, with 300 students completing a week-long placement in their local community. This invaluable program gives students the opportunity to explore career pathways, build confidence, develop employability skills, and gain greater independence. For some, it has even led to part-time employment. Our students experienced a wide range of industries, including retail, healthcare, hospitality, construction, and education.

We received extremely positive feedback from employers who noted that our students were respectful and demonstrated initiative in the workplace, proving to be valuable additions to their teams and businesses. They appreciated the opportunity to teach them the intricacies of their roles over the week and were impressed by their work ethic.
Below are some responses from our Year 10 students when asked what they enjoyed most about their work experience:
“Being able to make new connections. I loved making friends with all the residents. They were all lovely and the bonds I made were so strong, it hurt to leave.”- Anushka, completed work experience at VMCH Aged Care, Berwick.
“Being able to see my old teachers and meet new ones. It was also great being able to help the little kids and feel as though I was part of the community. The teacher and the aide were very welcoming and nice. So was the rest of the cohort! Great experience” - Summer, completed work experience at Fleetwood Primary School, Narre Warren.
“I enjoyed learning and experiencing a working environment, as well as learning several components of a car, servicing a car, and occasionally identifying and repairing problems within a car.” - Ammar, completed work experience at Pakenham Toyota.
“I got to wear scrubs and observe surgeries in the operating theatre. I also got to meet other people in the program who were all likeminded and we all got along fast. Would recommend it to any student considering a career in medical research.” - Athena, completed work experience at Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre, Melbourne
“Making new friends, getting exposed to different STEM careers in the Defence sector and getting to do a lot of hands-on STEM activities in groups. A highlight was a trip to a medical training site.” - Varshana, completed work experience with the Australian Defence Force.
“Being able to work in a hospital setting, chatting to experts. I LOVED IT!” - Elliot, completed work experience at St John of God Hospital, Berwick.
“I loved putting all the stock away because when customers were looking for items, I was able to assist them. It was a lot of fun, genuinely one of the best weeks of my life… ever! (This is not an exaggeration) - Ayma, completed work experience at Blooms The Chemist, Casey Central Shopping Centre.
“I really enjoyed being in the workshop with such awesome people and learning so much about bikes.” – Malachi, completed work experience at Alchemy Cycle Trader, Ferntree Gully.

We're excited to share that several of our Year 10 students have secured part-time jobs through their work experience placements. Additionally, a couple have also been offered apprenticeships to begin after they finish school. Congratulations to all of them! 😊
We also have another group of students heading out on work experience later this year and we wish them the best of luck!
Finally, thank you to all the businesses that provided work experience opportunities for our students. Your continued support plays a vital role in making this program worthwhile.
