Year 11 Camp – Bayview Adventure Camp

From 29–31 July, 150 Year 11 students and 15 staff headed to Bayview Adventure Camp in Grantville for three days of activities, challenges and plenty of memorable moments. Students took part in a wide range of activities, with highlights including the giant swing, high ropes course and raft building. The camp gave students plenty of opportunities to challenge themselves, work together and spend time with friends outside the usual school environment.

Trivia on the first night was a big hit and linked nicely with the Year 11 lunchtime trivia competition currently running at school. It was also a great chance for everyone to come together, relax and enjoy some friendly competition. Thursday afternoon brought perfect conditions for the Tough Mudder obstacle course. Groups of students raced through mud, water, and obstacles, working together and trying to catch the highly competitive teacher team!

For many students, the biggest highlight was simply having the opportunity to spend time together. One student reflected,

“My camp was good because I got to hang out with friends and do fun activities.”

Another student shared that the camp was especially memorable because of the connections they made:

“This year’s camp felt wonderful. I felt like I made more connections with people this year. One of the funniest moments was when one of our friends tricked the camels by making goat noises, but the most memorable highlight was everyone coming together for meals and trivia night, which made it easy to connect and spend quality time with friends. Overall, this year’s camp is definitely one I’ll remember forever, and I’m so grateful I got to share it with such an amazing group of people.”

Year 11 Camp was a fantastic opportunity for students to strengthen friendships, make new connections, step outside their comfort zones and create memories that will last well beyond the three days at Bayview.

Year 7 Camp - Forest Edge

Between Monday 3rd to Friday 7th August, Year 7 students across the College attended the Forest Edge camp in Neerim East.

Students (and staff) had a fantastic time across both groups, participating in a range of activities including Flying Fox, Crate Climb and High Ropes! Both groups were praised for their behaviour from the camp staff throughout the week.

Despite some inconsistent weather, everybody had a great time and was willing to push themselves outside of their comfort zone, which is what camp is about!

Year 9 Japanese City Excursion

On the 19th of June 2026, our Year 9 Japanese class went on an excursion by train to the Consulate-General of Japan in Melbourne. There, we learnt about school life in Japan, including manners and discipline, uniform, subjects and club activities (such as traditional tea ceremonies and kendo). The host also told us about her own wonderful experiences with working and day-to-day life in Japan.

After the presentation, the class had a leisurely walk to QV, then dispersed to have lunch, where we enjoyed the local Japanese cuisine at Ippudo Ramen.  Afterwards, the class ventured into Daiso to read Japanese (hiragana and katakana) labels and purchase some items along the way.

This experience gave us insight into Japanese culture, and how greatly it differs to ours in Australia. We thoroughly enjoyed this trip and are excited to learn more about Japan in the future!

The excursion to the Consulate-General of Japan on the 22nd of June was very educational as we got to do a range of activities. We participated in a trivia about Japanese school life and we also got to learn about specific items in Japanese culture such as a kendo sword and a bamboo matcha whisk.

Lunch in QV market was great, as we got to sit in a Japanese restaurant which helped us embrace their culture. Overall, the Japanese city excursion was excellent and I would definitely recommend it to all students studying Japanese!

The excursion to the Consulate General of Japan in the CBD helped us extend our knowledge on school life in Japan. Our lovely host told us a bit about herself, learning about her work experiences in Japan and how she adapted to the lifestyle. We learnt about the uniform, subjects and timetable of Japanese students, as well as how they organised lunchtime duties as a class.

After the presentation we were allowed 1 hour to walk around QV Melbourne and grab lunch. There were so many wonderful Japanese restaurants to eat at like sushi and ramen as well as a DAISO where we could use our reading skills for labels and buy many amazing Japanese items.

Overall I really enjoyed heading out to the city as it was the perfect opportunity to make many wonderful memories with my friends and peers.

VCE Japanese Excursion

On the 18th of August, the VCE Japanese students went on an excursion to the Consulate of Japan in Melbourne. We learnt about many exciting facts about traditional Japanese culture such as Japanese martial arts and tea ceremony. One of the most interesting martial arts we learnt about was Kyudo (Japanese archery), as many of the arts involved careful, precise practices to master them.

Afterwards, we headed down to the QV to have a nutritious lunch at Ippudo Ramen restaurant. They had a variety of traditional Japanese ramen such as Nirvana, Tori Shoyu and Shiromaru Motoaji, and side dishes such as Edamame and Takoyaki. The meals where filling and authentic with the restaurant being a fun cultural experience with the staff’s warm greetings. This was a fun way to end off the excursion as many had a great time learning and being immersed within the culture.

Moonlit Sanctuary had many different Australian animals such as dingoes, a Tasmanian

devil, a quokka, koalas, wombats, and much more, with guided tours provided by sanctuary staff. They spoke about some of the animals’ stories and lives prior to the sanctuary, and current conservation efforts to ensure populations thrive for years to come.

Students were able to see snakes, touch skinks, and hold leaf insects, yet the highlight for most was the Wallaby Walk, which involved hand-feeding (and petting) wild kangaroos and wallabies.
