Sport: Merlin Tzaros Australian Champion
Second time in a fortnight
Congratulations to Year 11 student, Merlin Tzaros who became Australian Champion for the 2nd time in a fortnight, this time claiming the individual Triathlon Sprint National Championship Gold, at the AusTriathlon Luke Harrop Memorial Gold Coast Triathlon on April 6th.
His title has qualified him for the 2025 World Triathlon Championship in October, to be held in Wollongong, NSW.
Despite being “bottom-aged” having only just turned 16, Tzaros won his 16-19 year age group in a field of 40 competitors, completing the Sprint distance (750m swim, 20km ride, 5km run) in well under an hour (0:57.49) to win by over a minute.
Not only that, he was also 1st of over 1,000 competitors in all age groups, on Marine Parade in Southport, Queensland
