Cross Country Skiing for WHS Students

Wangaratta High School has long upheld a proud tradition in Cross Country Skiing, offering students an exciting chance to engage in this unique sport. This year, we are thrilled to announce the commencement of the local Youth Development Squad’s “off-snow” training, held on Thursday nights at the Barr Reserve from 3:45 to 5:30 pm. This program aims to introduce students from Years 5 to 12 to both Skate and Classic Cross Country Skiing, while fostering skills, camaraderie, and fun. Additionally, students will have the chance to explore Biathlon, an exhilarating combination of Cross Country Skiing and target shooting.
Roller Ski Program – Building Skills and Confidence
In Terms 2 and 3, we run a Roller Ski Program – a dry-land version of Cross Country Skiing using skis on wheels. This innovative approach helps students quickly develop balance, confidence, and key skiing techniques. Whether students are complete novices or have prior experience, this program caters to all skill levels.
On-Snow Adventures in Term 3
Looking ahead to Term 3, students can anticipate two incredible 2-3 day “on-snow” trips, as well as several single-day events. These trips provide opportunities to participate in various individual and team competitions suitable for all abilities. Additionally, Biathlon training will take place during the Mt Hotham ski trip. Our past students have enjoyed remarkable success, with some competing at state, national, and even international levels.
