FUTSAL
'On Thursday 16th August, two teams entered the Intermediate boys futsal round robin competition at Springvale indoor. The standard of all teams was incredibly high, and as always the students from BSC represented the school impeccably.
The A team were placed in a tough group with Bentleigh, McKinnon and Westhall and started the competition brightly, coming out on top of an end-to-end game 4-3 thanks to 4 goals from Sarp Gokbay, spurred on by some encouraging words from coach McKenna and Bailey Evans. In the second game BSC were trailing 4-2 against McKinnon at one point, but showed their resilience and class to snatch a 5-4 victory with a goal with just 20 seconds left on the clock. That meant that a draw against Westhall would have been enough to top the group, but coach Mckenna's rotated team dispatched a physical Westhall side 4-1. Connor Torbet promised he would score once but actually hit the back of the net twice, and was only denied a hat-trick after being substituted with 5 minutes left to race up to Mount Hotham. Unfortuantely, the BSC challenge was ended in the semi finals, where the team dominated against Mordialloc College and scored a great goal through Ronan Smith but lost 3-1 thanks to some clinical finishing from the opposition.
The B team were led entirely by students, with Tristan Todman and Bob Nijffels taking charge as coaches and Rahul Viswanathan leading the team on the court, and put in some spirited and exciting performances throughout the 4 games they played. Ultimately, all their endeavour and talent led to some incredibly exciting games but saw them eliminated in the group stages.'
