ACTING PRINCIPAL REPORT

Over the past two weeks our teachers have planned and organised various activities to guide our students at Brighton Secondary College to strive and prepare to be responsible, empathic, life-long learners and critical thinkers.

During the latest PEP classes, our junior school students were treated to a lesson taught by our Year 11 and Year 12 students about ‘Bullying. No Way!’ day. We have been a registered school with the Australian wide ‘Bullying! No way initiative since 2019. It was wonderful to see our senior students modelling the positive school environment that we expect at BSC. I would like to thank those students who spent time preparing and delivering the lessons and the support from our Leading Teacher of Student Voice & Leadership, Mr Danny Chalk and our College Captains, Jayden, Jess and Jenson.

Our dedicated Science teaching team, led by Dr Anat Kiviti Manor (BSC Science Learning Leader) ran various lunchtime activities each day during ‘Science week’ for students to be involved and showcase a range of experiments. It was wonderful to see so many of our students get involved in this fun.

Today at lunchtime the Year 12 students went head-to-head with the staff in the much-anticipated annual staff vs student netball match. And what a game it was! The students performed well with athleticism and spirit, and I had heard they have been training for this match since they arrived in Year 7! Congratulations to our students and staff who participated in the game and the fun that was had. The students did come away with the win!

Students -19 points to staff - 14 points.

I would like to acknowledge the work ethic of our Year 12 students. Each day I see our amazing students studying individually and in small groups in our senior building when they have gaps in their timetable, and many other students who arrive early to school to study. We also have students who choose to attend additional lunchtime classes with our dedicated Year 12 teachers, where they can seek extra support or feedback on their work.

I regularly see Year 12 teachers and students who remain back after school working together to ensure students feel supported in their learning and can seek individual help.

Last year our mean VCE score was 30, which is outstanding, and this was a testament to the students and their teachers’ efforts and commitment. Our Leading teacher of Curriculum and Assessment, Ms Melissa Antoniuk works closely with each of our learning area teacher leaders to ensure there is a consistent approach across the whole school to achieve high results, cross marking, and as a school we have high expectations of our students learning and behaviours.

To continue to build and create a positive school community at Brighton Secondary College, where our students feel happy and safe, I would like to thank each and every parent/carer for your continued support to our school community and the work it takes by everyone to ensure your child has success. I am very proud of our students and staff at Brighton Secondary College with the commitment and dedication demonstrated each day.
