National Reconciliation week 27 May – 3 June

On Wednesday, the Nirimba Educational Precinct — including Wyndham College, St John Paul II Senior Catholic College, Nirimba TAFE, and Western Sydney University — united to support the reconciliation journey with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. This week marks two important milestones: the 1967 referendum granting all Aboriginal people the vote, and the High Court Mabo decision recognising native title rights.

Being “All In” means standing together with commitment — listening to Elders, respecting Aboriginal wisdom, and taking meaningful action to address ongoing inequality and injustice. In May 2026, NSW introduced stronger hate speech laws to better protect against racism and foster social cohesion, supporting this reconciliation journey.

Reconciliation involves many steps: truth-telling, recognition, healing, treaty, and treaty implementation. It calls on all of us to actively participate, to learn about Aboriginal culture, stories, and land, and work toward a future where community, culture, and justice thrive.

In Dharug, “Yuma ngay” means thank you — a heartfelt thanks to our Dharug Elders and all Aboriginal Elders who protect culture and land.

Far North Queensland Excursion

I was fortunate to be able to accompany our Year 12 students last week to Far North Queensland for the Visual Art, Visual design and Society and Culture excursion. It was an incredible experience for Wyndham College students and for me. We explored unique, fragile and impossibly beautiful ecosystems (the Great Barrier Reef, Mossman Gorge, Green Island Kuranda), learned about Indigenous culture and history, and developed a greater appreciation for Australia’s natural environment.

The trip fostered teamwork, curiosity, photography skills and a deep respect for our country’s diverse heritage. Thank you to Anjani, Jennie and Daniel, students, and families for your support in making this memorable learning adventure possible. I look forward to seeing the impact of this experience in the student major projects.

Nirimba Fields Public School moving in day

It was exciting to share with Nirimba Fields Public school their first day on their new school site. Wyndham College students Olivia, Monique and Alisz delivered the Acknowledgement of Country for the first Assembly for students, staff and parents.

The energy and excitement was palpable from everyone lucky enough to attend Nirimba Fields and it was fabulous to see such an engaged and vibrant community enjoy the modern facilities and quality education available in the Public Education system – the best education money can’t buy.

We hope to see these students at Wyndham College for their senior education.

Assessment Blocks

The Year 12 assessment block starts next week and the Year 11 assessment block starts on the 22nd June. Students are expected to attend all classes during the assessment block and complete an assessment task for each of their subjects. Vocational Education Training (VET) students will continue to complete competency tasks in the cycle set down by VET.

Year 12 Jackets 2027

Year 11 - The design for your Year 12 jacket for 2027 has been approved and ordering has commenced.

You will also be able to try on a sample jacket, so that you can determine the best fit when ordering. The sizing kit will be available in the interview room in Block, across from the PE door. This will be available at recess, lunch and during your study sessions. They will only be available for 1 week so please ensure you come up and try one on if you are unsure about sizing.

Jackets will cost $107 and you will receive them during your final exams at the end of term 3. All orders and payments will be made through the link below. No money or orders will be made through the office.

To order your jacket:

Determine your size
Go to the reform clothing website and start your order (see link below)
Choose an appropriate nickname. Remember nicknames are case sensitive and will appear on your jacket exactly how you type it. Inappropriate names will be changed to your surname.
Finalise your order and pay. Please pay $107 online via the Reform Clothing website by the 3rd of July.
The school office will not be accepting any payments.

Attendance Reports and Student Support at Wyndham College

Attendance reports have been emailed to parents and carers. Families may notice that student attendance percentages for individual classes sometimes appear lower than expected on attendance reports. This is because class attendance records include all lesson-by-lesson attendance data, including occasions where students may arrive late, leave early, or attend approved school business during class time.

As school rolls are legal documents, teachers are required to accurately mark attendance for every lesson. This means that when students are involved in school activities, excursions, meetings, sporting events, or other approved school functions, this can still impact the attendance percentage recorded for classes missed during that time.

The purpose of these reports is to provide families with a clearer picture of where missed class time may be affecting learning so that students can access support and catch-up opportunities where needed.

Wyndham College students have four long Study Sessions (double periods) built into their timetable cycle. These sessions are specifically designed to support student learning by providing time to:

catch up on missed work,
meet with teachers,
complete assessments or coursework, and
access additional academic support.

Students are also encouraged to utilise the SHINE tutors available in the library during Study Sessions.

In addition, Wyndham College has a Student Support Officer, Sara, available five days a week to assist students with organisation, managing missed work, and liaising with teachers regarding workload and support needs. Sara’s office is located at the top of the D Block stairs, and students are encouraged to seek support whenever required.

We thank families for their ongoing partnership in supporting student attendance, engagement, and success at Wyndham College.

Need help clearing an N-warning or catching up on work. Our SHINE tutors are here to help. See Sally in the Library or DP to get connected.

Meet our new SHINE tutor Hajar. Hajar will be working Thursdays with our students to improve their literacy, numeracy, complete assessments and prepare for upcoming tasks. She is training to be a Chemistry teacher, speaks Persian and we are very excited to have her join our team.

Cancer Council Australia's Biggest Morning Tea

We are hosting a big morning tea soon to raise money for cancer research. A huge thanks to the students who volunteered their time today to be on the leadership team for this event.

All students and families are welcome to help by bringing in items for the bake sale. All money raised goes to cancer research.

Uniform Shop

The uniform shop is open on Thursday mornings from 9am to10am.

You can find the shop on the upper level of C Block, just head up the Pelican stairs and go straight ahead. There is a lift available for those who need it.
