Year 11 Historians Commence their Major Historical Investigation
Year 11 Modern and Ancient History students at Wyndham College are deep into their second assessment task for the year, the Historical Investigation. This major project invites students to explore a topic of personal interest, sharpen their research skills, and demonstrate their growing expertise as young historians.
To support their work, students have been using the school library as their research hub, a space buzzing with inquiry, discussion, and critical thinking. As part of the task, students may choose to analyse an historical film, evaluating its accuracy by comparing it with a wide range of reliable sources. This approach encourages students to look beyond the screen and ask: What really happened?
Students are drawing on an impressive variety of primary and secondary sources, including:
- Books
- Academic articles
- Documentaries
- Podcasts
Historical films
This task is due at the end of Term 2, giving students time to refine their research question, gather evidence, and craft a well‑supported argument.
More importantly, the Historical Investigation allows students to demonstrate the core skills of the History syllabus: critical thinking, source analysis, independent research, and a deepening understanding of significant historical events and perspectives.
It’s been inspiring to see Year 11 students take ownership of their learning, ask big questions, and engage thoughtfully with the past. We look forward to seeing the final products of their hard work.
