ENGLISH FACULTY

Bell Shakespeare’s HSC Shakespeare Seminars with the University of Sydney.

On Wednesday 13th of May, Year 12 English Advanced ventured to Bell Shakespeare's HSC Seminar on Richard III. In collaborating with the University of Sydney, Professor Huw Griffiths of Art and Social Sciences allowed us to access both academic and theatrical opinions. During the seminar we delved into key scenes of Richard III, as it is our core text we are studying, this was extremely helpful in preparation for trial exams.

Not only did they analyse Shakespeare's language, but they acted scenes for us, allowing a bigger window into understanding the play. They showed us the differences acting can make in portraying the messages of a scene. It was fascinating to see the difference in person! Due to the depth study of the text coming in hand with the Al Pacino documentary ‘Looking for Richard’, seeing the actors change emotions for scenes was greatly helpful in analysing resonances and dissonances in the play and film.
