State Library & Shrine of Remembrance Visit
VCE Unit 1 History Excursion
In week 2, Unit 1 VCE History students had an opportunity to visit the State Library of Victoria and the Shrine of Remembrance to develop research skills and relevant content knowledge. One of the important skills students learn in VCE History is to be able to research historical sources in response to the prompt questions. During the State Library session, students not only learned some of the professional research skills using the database available through the State Library account but also study skills tips and a brief tour of the library, along with seeing Ned Kelly’s armour.
In the afternoon, students visited the Shrine of Remembrance to witness some useful primary sources and learned more about major wars of the 20th and the early 21st Century, such as World War I, World War II, Cold War, the Korean War, the Vietnam War, the War on Terrorism, etc. This was a good opportunity for students to connect how the Modern History contents we cover in the class is/was impacting Australia and the rest of the world.
