Performing Arts

 with Mrs Sarah Bailey

Welcome Prep, Grade 1 and Grade 2s!!

It has been a fantastic start to the term in Performing Arts. Our Prep to Grade 2 students have settled into classes beautifully and are doing a wonderful job learning our lesson routines and expectations. Each lesson follows a familiar structure of Sing (songs), Play (drama game), Move (dance), Make (music), Be Mindful (body regulation and music appreciation) and Meet Up (reflect on learning tasks, share opinions), helping students feel confident, engaged and ready to learn.

Throughout the term, students will explore a variety of music, movement and drama activities while developing important teamwork and listening skills. They will discover the difference between beat and rhythm, investigate how tempo can change the feel of music, and practise keeping a steady beat through songs, games and movement activities. Our "Me Time" mindfulness activities continue to be a special part of each lesson, giving students time to slow down, listen to music, practise breathing techniques and reflect on their learning.

Students will enjoy learning songs and dances from different cultures, including Obwisana and Funga Alafia, while working together to create rhythms using body percussion, instruments and fun "fruit rhythms" and "Musication" videos. We will also be trialling some song writing about native animals and funny rhymes. There will be loads of opportunities for children to express themselves creatively through dance, drama games and imaginative play.

It is shaping up to be a fun and active term filled with singing, movement, creativity and collaboration. We look forward to seeing our students grow in confidence as they develop their performing arts skills and learn to work together as supportive and enthusiastic performers.
