Foundation (Prep)
Welcome to Term 3! It is hard to believe we are already half way through the year and celebrating the Prep's first 100 days of school.
It has been wonderful to see our students return with enthusiasm, ready to embrace new learning opportunities and reconnect with friends and teachers. This term promises to be another exciting and productive one, with engaging classroom experiences, special events and opportunities for students to continue developing their knowledge, skills and confidence. Our students have settled back into classroom routines exceptionally well and have already been working hard across all learning areas. We look forward to another successful term of learning, growth and celebration together.
English
This term we are continuing to develop student confidence with independent tasks during our English block. The children are familiar with our whole class lessons and are constantly revising and building on prior knowledge. They are working regularly in small teacher-led groups and consolidating concepts through independent tasks.
Students have learnt the vowels (a,e,i,o,u) and are learning to identify them in the words we read and spell. All other letters of the alphabet are referred to as consonants.
The children are familiar with the term 'digraph', which refers to two letters that make one sound. This term, we have introduced 'll', 'ss', 'ff', 'ck', 'sh' and 'qu'. Each lesson provides the opportunity to practice reading, writing and spelling using the sounds we've learnt to this point.
Mathematics
In Mathematics, we have been developing a range of important foundational skills. Students have been exploring Friends of Ten, building their understanding of number combinations that make ten. They have also been learning about time, including duration of time, identifying the hour and minute hands on a clock and reading o'clock times. Alongside this, students have been practising simple addition sentences, strengthening their counting skills, and focusing on correct number formation, paying close attention to the proper point of entry and formation of each numeral. We are proud of the excellent effort and positive attitude our students have shown so far and look forward to another exciting and productive term of learning together.
Prep Students Shine at Their First Whole School Athletics Day
Our Prep students proudly participated in their very first Whole School Athletics Day on Tuesday, and what a fantastic day it was!
Throughout the day, students enthusiastically took part in a range of events, including discus, shot put, long jump and the 70-metre sprint around the track. It was wonderful to see our youngest students giving each event their best effort while being cheered on by the rest of the school. The sun was shining, creating the perfect backdrop for a memorable day of sport and community. We were delighted to see such a fantastic turnout of parents and families who came along to encourage and support the students. A special thank you also goes to our many parent volunteers who generously gave their time to help run the events. Your support was invaluable and greatly appreciated.
With smiles all around, plenty of encouragement and great sportsmanship on display, it was a truly successful Athletics Day and a wonderful experience for our Prep students.
100 Days of School
It was a special milestone for our Prep students this week. We celebrated 100 days of school and reflected on how far the children have come in their learning. Students are reading, writing, counting and calculating. The Preps have built new friendships, developed resilience, experienced new whole school events and are continually growing in confidence with their primary school routine.
Today students celebrated by dressing up as either a 100 year old person, what they'd like to be when they grow up or wearing clothing based around the number 100. We have had fun decorating cupcakes with our buddies, who are also celebrating their final 100 days left of primary school. Our buddies also helped us make gumball machines with 100 gumballs, a giant cardboard cake for our celebration and individual headbands for the Preps to wear. In Maths, we played a game called Race to 100 and used skip counting by tens to make collections of 100 objects.
We are very proud of everything the Prep students have achieved so far and look forward to watching them continue to learn and grow.
BOOK WEEK
Get ready to celebrate the magic of reading! Andersons Creek Primary School will be kicking off Children's Book Week 2026 on Friday 28 August with our much-anticipated Book Week Activity Day.
The day will begin with a colourful Book Week Costume Parade, where students are invited to come dressed as their favourite book characters. We can't wait to see the creativity and imagination on display as beloved characters come to life!
Following the parade, students will enjoy a fun-filled day of activities inspired by picture story books, celebrating the joy of reading, storytelling and creativity.
This year's Children's Book Week theme is "Symphony of Stories", recognising the way stories bring people together, spark imaginations and create lasting memories.
We look forward to sharing this special celebration with our students.
