Principal’s Report

It has been great to see our students return with enthusiasm and excitement for another busy Term. Classrooms have quickly settled back into their routines, and there is already a fantastic buzz around the school with some great events like Athletics and 100 Days celebrations taking place already with other exciting events to come. 

The start of a new term is always an opportunity for me to reflect on the progress we are making as a school, and there is certainly plenty to celebrate. Over recent years, our teachers have worked together to strengthen teaching and learning in literacy and numeracy through evidence-informed practices grounded in the Science of Learning. Simply put, the Science of Learning brings together decades of research into how children learn best. It helps teachers make informed decisions about how lessons are structured, how new concepts are introduced, how students practise new skills and how learning is revisited over time so that learning lasts. We’re already seeing the impact of this work! 

Our recently released 2026 NAPLAN results showed our Year 3 and Year 5 students achieving above the average of all Victorian government schools, similar schools and and our local network schools across most assessed areas. Over the past two years, we have placed a significant focus on strengthening reading instruction across the school, and it has been incredibly pleasing to see those efforts reflected in our students’ results. This coming Semester, while maintaining those strong reading outcomes, we have broadened our improvement work to include an explicit focus on writing, through high-quality instruction and an increased emphasis on sentence construction, vocabulary and syntax.

Away from the classroom, one of the highlights of the past fortnight was our annual Athletics Carnival at Tom Kelly Athletics Track. It was fantastic to see students challenging themselves, encouraging one another and proudly representing their House. Whether students were striving for a personal best, trying something new or cheering on their classmates, they demonstrated the resilience, sportsmanship and sense of community that make Andersons Creek Primary School such a special place. A huge thank you to our staff and parent volunteers whose support and enthusiasm helped make the day such a success.

This week rounded our with the celebration of two special milestones. Our Prep students proudly celebrated their 100th Day of School, reflecting on just how much they have learned and grown since beginning their school journey. Meanwhile, our Grade 6 students marked 100 days remaining of primary school—a reminder to make the most of every opportunity, friendship and memory as they approach the end of this important chapter. I am incredibly proud of both these groups of students and our school is a better place for having them in it. 

Finally, a reminder that Parent-Teacher Interviews will be held next Thursday. These conversations are a valuable opportunity to celebrate your child’s progress, discuss their learning and work together to support their continued growth.
