Prep 

Preps have explored some mark making and texture artworks. They enjoyed rubbing over different objects with oil pastels and seeing what emerged. They then tried to describe what their rubbings looked like and if it gave a sense of texture, such as something being scratchy, fluffy, scaly, soft, etc.

Grade 1 & 2 

Students in grades 1 and 2 have learned about Piet Mondrian, a Dutch artist, who was born in1872 and died in1944. He was very famous for a very iconic style of art. Mondrian wanted to break things down to their simplest forms, so he painted just with primary colours of red, blue and yellow. Instead of using secondary colours, like green, he broke it into its simplest parts of yellow and blue, and colours like orange simply became red and yellow. Mondrian chose to use squares and rectangles to represent things in his abstract artworks. 

Students made their own collaged artwork based on Piet Mondrian's artwork. They look very like Mondrian work! Well done, super stars :)

Grade 3 & 4

Grades 3, similar to grade 4s, have been working on printing. They designed a snowman, or snow scene, and then etched it into foam. From their foam printing plate, they made a printing of their design.

Grade 5 & 6

Students were able to complete their radial symmetry artworks this week. They had explored patterns and symmetry through designing an artwork to be transferred onto a sheet of foam. They used printing ink and their foam block to create a radial-symmetry artwork. The students had a test run on a white square of paper before commencing on their previously painted rainbow square of paper.
