Learning in Year 2

Literacy

In Writing, we finished our persuasive writing unit and saw some fantastic persuasive skills develop throughout the term. Students worked hard to share their opinions and support their arguments with strong reasons. We have also enjoyed many hands-on experiences while learning about procedural texts. Students had fun making paper planes and fairy bread, and we will finish the unit by decorating biscuits and following instructions to complete directed drawings. These activities have helped students understand the importance of clear, sequenced instructions.

Mathematics

In Mathematics, we have been working on the four processes: addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division. Students have been learning through hands-on materials, games, and engaging activities that help build their understanding and confidence. We have been impressed with the way they have embraced challenges and shown persistence when tackling new concepts. Over the coming weeks, we will be exploring location, learning about positional language, directions, grids, and how to use maps.

Integrated

In Integrated Studies, we loved our excursion to Scienceworks, where we explored a range of exciting exhibits, watched the spectacular Lightning Room show, and visited the Planetarium. The students were exceptionally well-behaved and respectful throughout the day, and we were very proud of the way they represented our school. They had a wonderful time engaging with the hands-on exhibits and exploring how science works in the world around them. Back in the classroom, students are enjoying becoming weather experts as they research and create their own weather reporter presentations.

Wellbeing

In Wellbeing, we have been learning about the four Zones of Regulation and what each zone looks and feels like. Students have been exploring how their emotions, energy levels, and behaviours can fit into different zones, and discussing strategies they can use to help regulate themselves when needed. This has helped students develop a greater understanding of their feelings and build skills to support their wellbeing both in and out of the classroom.
