Catholic Identity

Mary Mackillop

Thursday, August 8th, marks Mary MacKillop’s Feast Day, a day to remember and celebrate her life and the significant impact she had in founding the Sisters of Saint Joseph of the Sacred Heart, commonly known as the Josephite Sisters. Mary MacKillop is Australia’s first canonised saint.

Prayer

Prayer God of all blessings,

you revealed in Mary MacKillop a sensitivity to the

rights and dignity of every person, regardless of race or creed.

May we learn from her to overcome fear and prejudice.

Help us to value the goodness of each person and

all the blessings of unity in diversity.

We ask this through the depth and unity of you,

our bountiful God who holds all things in being.

Amen.

Reconciliation Program

We thank all parents that attended our Reconciliation Information evening on Monday. An email was sent out to all participating with further information about the program.

Whole School Mass: The Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary

On Thursday, August 15th, the whole school will attend Mass at St. Joseph’s Church at 12:30 PM. All parents and guardians are invited to join us.

August 15th is a significant day for Catholics, celebrating the Dormition (falling asleep) or Assumption of the Virgin Mary. The Feast of the Assumption commemorates both Mary's peaceful departure from this life and her bodily assumption into heaven.

Fatima Statue Pilgrimage

Last Friday, our Year 3/4 students visited St. Joseph’s Church to gather and pray for the intercessions of Our Lady of Fatima, seeking peace in our world and entrusting ourselves and our nation to her protection. The Fatima Statue was visiting our parish Church for a week. This statue, from Portugal, bears the relics of the Apparition site in its base.

The students and teachers were fascinated by this story, and we hope they went home and shared their experience.

Our Call to Mission

On Friday's assembly, the Catholic Identity School leaders had the pleasure of announcing that House Team 'Mercy', the first to collect 100 food items. Mercy celebrated their win with an extra 15 minutes of playtime at lunch on Monday.

We wish to continue collecting non-perishable food items to donate to the Cobram Food Share. We have currently collected approximately 298 food items. Please encourage your child to bring an item from your pantry. Every item will definitely make a difference to our local community in need.

St. Joseph’s Award

The St. Joseph’s Award focus for weeks 4, 5, and 6 is showing PERSEVERANCE.

St. Joseph demonstrated perseverance in all aspects of his life. To show perseverance means to continue striving and working hard, even when something is challenging.

Please encourage your child to embody this St. Joseph quality in their own lives at home.
