Wellbeing Matters
Bullying is always a hot topic in the media and parents are often nervous about how their child will fit in socially at school.
Next week we are taking part in Bullying No Way: National Week of Action, Australia’s key bullying prevention initiative. Our students are participating in Personal and Social Community Health lessons that help them to recognise acts of bullying, practise strategies to report and respond to bullying, as well as promote anti-bullying messages throughout the school.
So what is bullying?
Bullying is an ongoing and deliberate misuse of power in relationships through repeated verbal, physical and/or social behaviour that intends to cause physical, social and/or psychological harm (Bullying No Way, 2024).
There are great resources to support you when talking to your child about bullying or handling difficult social situations. We’ve listed these in the sources below. For more information about bullying, please read the article for parents from Bullying No Way:
Definitions of bullying, harassment, discrimination and violence (bullyingnoway.gov.au)
Please reach out to your child’s teacher or wellbeing team if you have concerns about your child’s social relationships at school. Bullying prevention is everyone’s business.
