Do you collect anything?

Stubby holders.

If you could choose to be anything for a day, what would it be?

I was going to say a movie theatre chair, but then I’d get sat on, so the back wall in a movie theatre, so I could watch movies all the time for free.

If you could only eat one meal for the rest of your life, what would it be?

A big fry-up breakfast: eggs, bacon, sausages, tomato, hash browns etc.

If you were a superhero, what powers would you have?

I’d love to read minds—I’m always curious about what people are thinking.

What book, TV series or podcasts are you into at the moment?

I just finished reading A Little Life, which was an incredibly sad and long book. I also just finished watching The Residence on Netflix, and that was great. I’m not a big podcast person, but I do listen to some audiobooks.

What is the most rewarding part of your job?

Following students all the way through to the end of Year 12 and seeing them grow into fine young people.

What is your favourite music?

I listen to a lot of random music but I do love Spacey Jane.

What would you sing at karaoke night?

I’m the worst singer alive—Piano Man by Billy Joel, or anything from High School Musical or Camp Rock.

When you were little, what did you aspire to be?

When I was really young, probably a Pokémon trainer. But once I realised that wasn't a real job, I wanted to be a teacher.

Who would you like to swap places with for the day?

I would love to swap places with my 10-year-old self, but I don’t think that follows the rules of the question. So maybe Elon Musk, so I cou transfer all of his money into my account.

Thanks, Mr Hughes!
