Principal's Report

I’ll fix my head when all this ends / I’m holding out for Spring
We can’t let Winter win / That’s why I’m holding out for Spring
(Spring by Ed Sheeran)
I have a cherry blossom in my yard. I can see it now, sitting at my desk, writing to you.
Every year, as the calendar stretches deep into August and it feels like winter has gone on for too long, the cherry blossom bursts forth with small, delicate, beautiful flowers. Against the grey sky, and buffeted by strong winds, these flowers are nature telling me that spring is coming.
The flowers have opened since our last newsletter, and I have been thinking about them, and spring, this week. Spring is the season of new growth and new life, renewal and regeneration, and looking forward to brighter days ahead.
At school, as we approach the end of Term 3, we reflect on and celebrate our students’ achievements. Let me share with you some of the academic excellence and outstanding performances, enriching learning experiences and opportunities to prepare for life beyond school, that our students have embraced with enthusiasm and dedication.
High Achievers' Breakfast
We were delighted to recognise and celebrate the students who have demonstrated excellence in their academic performance. Last week, those who ranked in the top 5% for Semester 1 were invited, along with their parents, to a High Achievers' Breakfast in the MCC Pavilion. We extend our congratulations to the High Achievers, pictured on our website and listed below, and sincerely thank Melissa Casley, Josh Slocum and Nel Els for organising this special event.

Congratulations to our Magnificent Puffs!
A huge congratulations to everyone involved in the production of Puffs! From the cast and crew to the musicians, lighting and sound teams and the production staff, the students did an exceptional job in every role. The result was an incredibly entertaining and brilliantly executed show.
A special thank you to Ms Price, Ms Irvine, Ms O'Malley, Ms Saunders, Mr Lee and the team for their dedication and support in bringing this production to life. It was a magical show filled with humour, talent and creativity, and one of the funniest performances I have seen in a very long time.
We are immensely proud of all students for their commitment, collaboration and enthusiasm in making this production such a wonderful success.
Japanese Exchange
Last week, we had the pleasure of welcoming Japanese exchange students from our sister school, Ritsumeikan Keisho Junior & Senior High School in Japan, for a week-long visit. We extend our sincere thanks to Maiko Yamane and Sarah Keating for their outstanding work in organising the exchange and providing our visitors with a wide range of enriching activities. We also sincerely thank the families who generously hosted the students in their homes.
Preparing Students for the Future
Our students have been engaging in a range of experiences to prepare them for life beyond school. VCE VM students practised interview skills with industry professionals at Malvern Town Hall, while Year 9–12 students developed hospitality skills through silver service and barista training. Year 10 students continued exploring construction pathways at Holmesglen TAFE, gaining hands-on experience in a variety of trades. Some of our Year 8–10 students also supported Beaumaris North Primary School’s Athletics Carnival, taking on official roles and contributing positively to the day.
Student Leadership Conference
On Monday, our student leaders came together in the MCC to reflect on their Term 1 achievements and set new goals for Semester 2. We also welcomed the School Captains from Beaumaris Primary School and Beaumaris North Primary School to foster collaboration and shared learning opportunities. A sincere thank you to Madeliene Hunter-Smith and Chris Ardi for organising this important conference.
Year 10 Snow Camp
Our second snow trip of the season commenced yesterday, with Year 10 students departing for a three-day adventure on the slopes. This exciting experience provides students with opportunities to develop their skiing and snowboarding skills, enjoy the outdoors and strengthen friendships. A special thank you to Caitlyn Bayley and the staff accompanying the students for supporting what promises to be another enjoyable trip.
VCE P/S/T Conferences & VCE Trial Exams
We thank all parents who attended our VCE P/S/T Conferences this week. Your involvement is invaluable in supporting your child to achieve their best outcomes. VCE trial exams for Unit 3/4 subjects will be held during the school holidays. These exams provide students with the opportunity to practise the examination process, familiarise themselves with protocols and identify areas for further improvement.
Progress Reports
Progress Reports were made available to families on Friday 22 August. We encourage both students and parents to review these reports carefully, reflect on learning, and set goals for the remainder of the semester.
Community Praise
We were thrilled to receive feedback from a local community member praising our Year 12 students. Their courteous and respectful behaviour reflects not only their character but also the positive, inclusive culture we work hard to foster at Beaumaris Secondary College.
Hi there, I live locally and from time to time my (4yo) granddaughter and I enjoy a pie at the Bakehouse in the Concourse (after the library). Several times this year we have been sitting enjoying our lunch when a group of senior (Yr12) boys from BSC has arrived to also presumably purchase lunch. It is a small shop lol and a group of 5 or 6 yr12 boys soon makes it feel very full.
On each occasion I have observed that their behaviour is terrific; courteous, respectful, polite to a fault. The interaction between them as they wait their turn has also been very…appropriate to the setting (I guess I’m particularly conscious of a fascinated 4yo beside me).
So…well done to the school and commendation from at least one member of the local community for the behaviour of these boys.
Footy Colours Day
Students and staff had a blast showing off their team colours, participating in GOAL activities and cheering on the Year 12 vs staff footy game at lunch on Monday—staff came out on top! Together, the BSC community raised almost $400 for the Fight Cancer Foundation.
2025 Curriculum Contributions
Thank you to our families for their generous Curriculum Contributions in 2025. Your support plays a crucial role in enriching the educational experience for all students at Beaumaris Secondary College. These contributions enable us to provide a broad range of resources, programs and opportunities that enhance learning and help our students thrive. We are deeply grateful for your ongoing commitment to our school community.
