Foundation

Students have been exploring clay. Different skills that are being developed include pinching, flattening and rolling. Students practised pushing different objects into the clay to create marks in the surface of the clay. Students practised making a pinch pot before making the clay into a ball again.

Foundation, Grade 1, 2, 3 and 4

Students enjoyed the story 'The Underwater Fancy Dress Parade' by Davina Bell.

This links with Davina Bell visiting the school on Tuesday 25 August. A starfish character is referred to in the story. Students used clay to make their own starfish. Students made a ball from clay and flattened the clay to make a slab. A stencil of a starfish was put on top of the slab and students used a clay knife to cut the starfish from the clay. The sides were smoothed and then students could use a variety of tools to push into the clay to make lines and patterns.

Grades 5 and 6

Students are almost finished sewing their 'Goldfish' inspired by the painting by Henri Matisse. The next issue of the newsletter will have the finished fish.

Take a moment to ...

make or buy some playdough or use air dry clay to practise some modelling skills.
