Photography MAP: McClelland Sculpture Park and Scienceworks

Last month, the Photography MAP visited McClelland Sculpture Park and Gallery. Students walked through the gardens and photographed the native flora as it began to bloom for spring. They also visited the gallery and viewed Years of Colour by Australian abstract artist Christopher Pyett, whose work explores colour, movement and composition.

This month, students visited Scienceworks, where they explored the historic Spotswood Pumping Station. They photographed the well-preserved building and its collection of historic engines while learning about the site's history.

Students also visited the Colour: See the World in a New Light exhibition, which explored colour, light and perception. This connected closely with ideas we work with in photography, including how light behaves and how our brains interpret colour and images. It was a useful opportunity for students to see some of the science behind the techniques and visual effects used in photography.

Students had a full day of learning and photography, with opportunities to apply what they have been learning in class to new environments.
