你好 nǐ hǎo to our wonderful community!

This term in Science, students across the school have been engaged in hands-on learning experiences that encouraged curiosity, investigation and scientific thinking.

Our Foundation students have been exploring the exciting world of magnets and forces. They have investigated which objects are magnetic and discovered how magnets can push and pull without even touching. Through experiments and play-based learning, students explored how magnetic forces work and used scientific language to describe their observations. It has been wonderful to see students making predictions, testing ideas and sharing their discoveries.

In Grades 3/4, students have been investigating how heat affects different materials. Students are focussing on understanding heat transfer and how heat changes materials in different ways. Students learned to identify the three types of heat transfer - conduction, convection and radiation and explored real-life examples of each. They have also investigated different heat sources and discussed their properties and everyday uses. One of the highlights this week was examining what happens to the molecules in chip packaging when we put them in the oven. Students observed changes carefully and used scientific vocabulary to explain that chip packets shrink when you put them in the oven.

It has been fantastic to see students developing their inquiry skills, asking thoughtful questions and making connections between science learning and the world around them.
