Assistant Principal Message

Open Morning
It was lovely to see so many families attend our Opening Morning this week and take part in the literacy block, either through phonics in the junior school or text studies in the senior school. Our teachers, despite being a little nervous, loved showcasing the learning and engagement of our students.
As a whole school, we have worked hard to create calm, predictable learning environments while also exploring the Science of Learning research to ensure we are teaching students using evidence based practices.
Families who attended our Opening Morning would have seen our Morning Circles in action. These provide an important opportunity for students and teachers to connect, build community and prepare students to be ready for learning.
In classrooms, you may have noticed practices such as:
- use of mini whiteboards (“write it, hover it, chin it, bin it”)
- choral responses (students answering or repeating together)
- gesture voting
- turn and talks
- recaps of previous learning
- opportunities to practise skills
time to apply learning independently
These practices support students to:
- connect new learning to what they already know
- understand concepts more clearly
- remember learning over time
apply knowledge in different situations with confidence
Thank you again to all families who attended and supported this opportunity to share the wonderful learning taking place across our school.

Assistant Principal
