Principal's Message

District Cross Country

On Monday 18th May, 55 students represented our school at the District Cross Country event held at Ruffey Lake Park. It was wonderful to visit the event and see the strong encouragement, teamwork, and school spirit shown amongst our students. All participants demonstrated excellent persistence and sportspersonship, and we are very proud of their efforts and the positive way they represented our school community.

Congratulations to the 11 students who qualified for the Division Cross Country event. This is a fantastic achievement, and we wish them all the very best for the next stage of competition.

Education Week

Open Mornings

On Tuesday morning, we welcomed our junior families into classrooms to participate in our morning circle and to observe phonics learning in action.

It was a wonderful opportunity for families to engage with their child’s learning and to gain insight into our daily classroom routines and teaching practices. Students confidently demonstrated their learning and showcased their developing phonics skills in a supportive and engaging environment.

Parents were also introduced to new terminology used in the classroom as students worked through Phonics Plus lessons and demonstrated their understanding using strategies such as "write it" “bin it”, “park it”, “hover it”, and “chin it”.

These routines support student focus, self-regulation, and active participation in learning and allow teachers to check for understanding.

On Wednesday, we welcomed families into our senior classrooms to observe text study in action.

This provided a valuable opportunity for families to see how students engage with rich texts, develop comprehension strategies, and participate in meaningful discussions to deepen their understanding. Students demonstrated confidence in analysing texts, sharing ideas, and using evidence to support their thinking.

Grade 3/4 students are currently reading The Sugarcane Kids and the Red-Bottomed Boat, engaging in rich discussions and activities that build comprehension, critical thinking, and enjoyment of literature. Through this text, students are exploring character development, setting, and key themes while making meaningful connections to their learning.

Grade 5/6 students are reading Sister Heart, a powerful and thought provoking text that supports deep understanding of historical perspectives, empathy, and reflective thinking. Students are engaging in guided discussions and analysis, developing their ability to interpret themes, author intent, and emotional responses within the text.

Both year levels are demonstrating strong engagement with their reading programs and developing important literacy skills through high quality literature.

Our upcoming Working Bee is on tomorrow from 8:00am to 10:00am, and warmly invite all families to come along and get involved. It’s a fantastic opportunity to help improve our school grounds, while also connecting with other members of our community.
