Certificate II in Engineering Pathways – Formula High School Track Day Success
The Marist College Ashgrove Certificate II in Engineering Pathways students recently capped off their Formula High School journey with an outstanding performance at the annual endurance Track Day event. Competing against 28 schools from across Queensland in a demanding six-hour endurance race, our team secured an impressive third-place finish overall, crossing the line just four laps behind the eventual winners.
While the podium finish was certainly something to celebrate, the day showcased far more than just competitive success. From the moment the team arrived at the circuit early in the morning until the final pack-up in the afternoon, our students demonstrated the qualities that have been developed throughout their Engineering Pathways studies: teamwork, leadership, resilience, responsibility and professionalism.
Despite challenging weather conditions and strict safety requirements, the boys conducted themselves exceptionally well throughout the event. Every student embraced their role within the team, whether behind the wheel, assisting in the pit area, monitoring race conditions or supporting their teammates. Their ability to work together under pressure was a credit to both themselves and the College.
Particularly pleasing was the maturity displayed on track. The students understood the demands of endurance racing and approached the challenge with patience, discipline and respect for both the vehicle and their competitors. They drove strategically, avoided unnecessary risks and consistently put the needs of the team ahead of individual ambition. This level of commitment was a major factor in achieving such an impressive result.
As educators, we hope the lessons learned extend well beyond technical and engineering skills. Throughout the event, our students demonstrated accountability, effective communication, problem-solving and genuine mateship. These attributes will serve them well as they move into apprenticeships, further education and future careers.
A special thank you must also be extended to our generous industry sponsors whose support played a significant role in making this opportunity possible:
Their assistance, encouragement and commitment to supporting young people in engineering and trade pathways are sincerely appreciated.
Congratulations to all of the students involved. Finishing 3rd out of 28 cars, completing six hours of racing and finishing only four laps from victory is a remarkable achievement. More importantly, the way the team represented themselves, their families and Marist College Ashgrove throughout the day was exemplary.
The entire College community should be incredibly proud of this remarkable group of young men and the outstanding way they concluded their Engineering Pathways Formula High School journey.
A huge thank you must go to Mr AJ Gray for his outstanding leadership, guidance, support, and dedication as the driving force behind this wonderful and unique program within the Technology Department. In just four years of participation, we have continued to grow in both consistency and capability, building valuable knowledge and expertise through experience each year. Adrian's commitment to fostering excellence, innovation, and continuous improvement has been instrumental in the program's success, providing students with exceptional opportunities to develop their skills and confidence in a highly authentic learning environment. We are incredibly grateful for his passion, vision, and tireless efforts in helping establish this program as a point of pride for our College.
