Mr Gareth Kolkenbeck-Ruh - Assistant Head of College - Primary School
I would like to thank all the boys who attended our Year 6 Mass on Wednesday. It was a wonderful occasion of togetherness. The Chapel of Our Lady was filled with the Year 6 cohort celebrating their final opportunity to share Eucharist in the Chapel as Primary students. It is a wonderful example of what we are about at Marist.
We have a really busy week in the primary school with various transition activities, Year 6 boys finding out their houses for 2027 and Day for Daniel on Friday this week. My concern always in term 4 is that all these activities seem to merge into one as we attend to the busyness of life. I encourage everyone to enjoy them and appreciate them as many events that take place now are setting students and families up for the excitement of next year as well as being a flagship and a reminder of a very positive and momentous 2026.
I hope everyone has a safe and happy Week 3.
A reminder that the Year 6 Graduation and Mass will be held on Wednesday 25 November in the Champagnat Centre. Following the Mass and ceremony, there will be afternoon tea hosted in the Saint Marcellin Centre. More detailed information regarding timings and bookings will be sent out in the coming weeks.
Day for Daniel – This Friday (Free Dress)
This Friday, the College will hold its Day for Daniel free-dress day, supporting child safety education. A gold coin donation would be appreciated.
As part of our Primary pastoral focus on respectful relationships and digital citizenship, boys will participate in age-appropriate sessions that build their understanding of personal safety and seeking help.
Year 5 will have the opportunity to hear from Detective Acting Sergeant Owen Stuttard, who works within Queensland Police’s Argos unit, focusing on child abuse and sexual crimes. His session will provide practical, age-appropriate guidance on staying safe online and recognising when to seek support from a trusted adult.
Year 6 will engage with Safe on Socials, exploring responsible online behaviour and strategies to protect themselves and support others.
We encourage families to continue these important conversations at home following these sessions.
Year 5 2027 Transition Afternoon
On Monday, we welcomed 65 students who will join Marist as Year 5 students in 2027. Through relaxed team-building activities, the boys learnt names, worked together and began making connections with their future classmates.
The afternoon provided a welcoming introduction to our Primary community, helping the boys build confidence and a sense of belonging ahead of next year. Further transition opportunities are planned throughout Term 4 and into the new year.
Last week, Assessment Calendars for both Years 5 and 6 were emailed to all parents and students. Please see below as an additional point of reference. Last week, all Primary teachers released the revision for the upcoming Mathematics assessments across Years 5 and 6. A reminder that Morning Study is available to all students to work on preparation for these assessments and that finishing the year well has been very much a theme of our Term 4 start. Morning Study commences from 7:40am to 8:10am each day.

Late Pick Up After Sports Training
“PLAN B”
It is important that both parent and student are aware of the pick-up procedure if afternoon sports training is cancelled or if parents are running late for pick-up. As soon as a decision is made to cancel a sporting fixture or training, a message is placed on the College app. If training is cancelled, boys can remain in the primary school or walk to an arranged pick-up point when the time arrives.
Afternoon sports training sessions are scheduled to finish by 4:45pm. We ask that boys are picked up at this time. Any boy who is still at their training venue at 5:00pm will be directed to the After Hours Boarding Reception area / College Health Centre so that he may be collected from there. After Hours Boarding Reception can be contacted on 07 3858 4619.
