Career Investigation:
Mr AJ Gray - Program Leader VET (Acting)
At Marist College Ashgrove, we are committed to helping our young men discover their strengths, explore their interests and prepare for life beyond school.
Vocational Education and Training (VET) and Careers play an important role in this journey, providing students with opportunities to develop practical skills, gain industry experience and explore potential career pathways.
We will continue to strengthen our connections with industry, TAFE, Registered Training Organisations (RTOs) and local employers to provide meaningful opportunities for our students. These include nationally recognised qualifications, school-based apprenticeships and traineeships, TAFE at School programs, work experience and other pathways into employment or further study.
Important Information for Students and Families
Work Experience – Years 10–12
Parents, Guardians and students in Years 10 - 12 are encouraged to check their email inboxes for important upcoming information regarding Work Experience procedures and processes. Work experience provides valuable opportunities for students to explore potential careers, develop workplace skills and gain insight into their chosen industries.
2027 TAFE at School Programs – Year 11 students
Families are also encouraged to review the recent communication regarding 2027 ‘TAFE at School’ programs. These programs allow students to undertake vocational qualifications while completing their schooling. Places in popular courses can fill quickly, so interested students should review the information, discuss their options with their families and act promptly to avoid missing out. Application process is in the communication sent home.
Certificate Course Progression ‘Where are you at’
Students enrolled in certificate courses are reminded of the importance of finishing the school year well by completing all outstanding units of competency for 2026.
Please be aware that Exam Block privileges may be withdrawn for students who are not up to date with their required units of competency. Students are encouraged to communicate with their teacher immediately if they have outstanding work or require clarification about their assessment requirements.
Considering a Career as an Electrician?
Students considering a future career as an electrician should pay close attention to their academic progress, particularly in Mathematics, English and Science (Year 10 result). Students considering this field as a School Based Apprentice will be required to be passing these subjects.
Academic results can be important for entry into electrical apprenticeships and related training pathways. Students and families should be aware that specific entry requirements may apply.
Looking Ahead
There is no single pathway to success - our goal is to help every student find the one that is right for him.
