Teacher & Education Support Staff Profiles

Getting to know the HPS staff is an important part of building strong connections within our school community. By learning more about the people who work closely with your children each day, families can feel more confident and engaged in their child’s learning journey. Strong relationships between teachers, education support staff, students and families, supports communication and trust, building a positive learning environment for all.
In each newsletter, we will share a little bit about some of our teachers through a Staff Profile. We have asked teachers a range of questions and they have provided their responses. Please enjoy reading about some of our support staff: Bridie Williams (ES), Charlotte Todd (ES), Jackson Steele (ES) and Kayla Cam (ES) this week.
| Bridie Williams | History of employment? (where have you worked) For most of my working life I have been in various admin roles. My husband and I have been operating an electrical contracting business for 17 years. Before coming to ES work at Highvale I was a DJ, session supervisor and teacher at a skating rink. That was fun! | What makes Highvale PS a great school to work at The community and the kids. I enjoy working in such a supportive and welcoming environment. Working with these kids and seeing them grow is a privilege. | When not at school I like to……. When I'm not at school, and if all the housework and business work is done, you will find me sitting in my studio spinning yarn or knitting. I also love reading, music and nature. | My family Just me and the boys… all tradies. Tim (husband) is a sparky, Sam (youngest boy) also a sparky and dad’s apprentice. Jack (eldest boy) roof tyler. It's all tradie jokes and meat pies at my house. |
| Charlotte Todd | When not at school I like to……. When I’m not at school I enjoy spending time with my friends and family. I love music and going to as many concerts as I can. I also enjoy going to the movies and reading in my free time! | What do you like about Highvale Primary School? Since recently starting at Highvale Primary School I have felt very welcomed and supported. Everyone has been extremely kind and I have loved my time so far at Highvale PS. | If I wasn’t a teacher/ES I would like to be………. If I wasn’t an ES or studying to become a teacher I would l like to be a flight attendant. I love travelling and it would be a great way to see the world! | Who was your favourite teacher at school and why? My favourite teacher at school was my year 3 teacher Miss Kanci. She was kind, supportive and made every day fun. I loved going to school because of her and she is one of the reasons why I want to be a teacher. |
| Jackson Steele | What do you like about Highvale Primary School? I love how friendly and welcoming all the staff and students are at Highvale! Even in my short time being at the school, everyone has made me feel extremely welcome and excited to come to school. | When not at school I like to……. When not at school, I enjoy all things sport and music! I love to ski and watch the footy in winter (Go Hawks!), while the warmer months are spent up at Lake Eildon, going to live music events, and spending time with mates. I also enjoy DJing whenever I get the chance. | If I wasn’t a teacher/ES I would like to be………. If I wasn’t an ES or studying to be a teacher, my dream job would be a DJ/music producer. I love being able to provide the soundtrack to people’s favourite memories and create an atmosphere that brings people together through music. | Who was your favourite teacher at school and why? I was lucky enough to have a few amazing teachers when I was at school but Ms Lay was always my favourite. She was my PE teacher when I was in Year 12 and went above and beyond to help me be the best that I could be. She is also one of the funniest people I’ve ever met, especially during our weekly review of the footy on the weekend. |
| Kayla Cam | History of employment? (where have you worked) I have worked at many jobs over the years, including roles in the hospitality industry like cafes and restaurants. During my first year of uni, I had the chance to work with children. I gained experience in a childcare centre after being referred by my aunt, which helped me develop more skills working with young children. Throughout my employment history, I’ve moved between different jobs to explore new opportunities and build a various range of skills. Right now, I’m happy with where I am today, balancing two jobs that I enjoy. | When not at school, I like to…
DANCE! I regularly attend dance classes and as part of a dance crew, I participate in rehearsals and practice sessions to prepare for public performance and dance covers. I also enjoy going to pilates, catching up with friends over a matcha, baking, attending events like concerts or fun festivals, and spending time outdoors. Whether it’s a scenic drive, a walk outdoors or a hike, I love exploring new places and staying active.
| If I wasn’t an ES I would like to be……….
I would kind of see myself as an Interior designer. I actually studied interior design at RMIT and graduated about two years ago. I also finished a short internship which gave me some experience. Even though I enjoy designing and being creative I realised it wasn't something I wanted to pursue long term. It was also a little challenging to find jobs like that in Melbourne. But, if i wasn’t working as an ES, interior design is probably the path I would have continued with. Another career path If I wasn’t an ES, I think I’d either be a dance instructor. I’m really passionate about dancing so becoming a dance instructor would be something I’d enjoy. It would be a fun way to share something I love with others and help them build up their confidence.
| What makes Highvale PS a great school to work at What makes Highvale PS a great school to work at is the people. I did my first placement there and from the start I knew that I was going to love the school. Everyone was so welcoming and friendly which honestly made me feel comfortable straight away. The staff are supportive and the kids are kind, respectful and fun to work with. I just love the positive atmosphere around the school and it feels like everyone genuinely cares about each other. My placement experience at Highvale definitely played a big part in confirming that I wanted to work in education and it’s a school community that I’m grateful to be a part of :) |
