Assistant Principal Report

Dear Highvale families,

It’s hard to believe how quickly the end of term is approaching. Even though the holidays are just around the corner, there is still plenty of rich learning taking place across all year levels, along with some wonderful opportunities to celebrate students’ achievements.

Over the next two weeks, students will be finalising work, reflecting on their progress, and preparing to share their growth with you through Student‑Led Conferences. These conferences are a fantastic chance for students to take pride in their learning, talk about what they’ve achieved, and set goals for next term.

Families will also receive end‑of‑semester reports next Friday 19th June via Compass, which highlight each child’s progress and effort throughout Terms 1 & 2.

With so much happening, please remind your family to keep an eye on Compass for updates, schedules and important information.

It’s an exciting finish to a busy and productive term, and we look forward to celebrating all the learning that has taken place.

Student Reports Available Next Friday

We are quickly approaching an exciting milestone for the term — student reports will be available to families on Friday 19th June via Compass. These reports provide an important snapshot of your child’s learning, progress, and achievements across the semester.

Reading your child’s report is a valuable way to:

  • Understand the growth they have made this term
  • Celebrate their strengths and successes
  • See areas where they may need support or further challenge
  • Prepare for meaningful conversations during Student‑Led Conferences

Families will receive a Compass notification as soon as reports are live and ready to access. Please take the time to read through your child’s report carefully — it is a wonderful opportunity to recognise their hard work and reflect on their learning journey.

If you have any questions after viewing the report, you are always welcome to discuss these with your child’s classroom teacher during the Student-Led Conference.

Student‑Led Conferences – Tuesday 23rd June

Our Student‑Led Conferences are coming up on Tuesday 23rd June. This will be a student‑free day, except for the time that students attend their scheduled conference. It is an expectation that all students attend, as they have been working hard in class to prepare for this important learning celebration.

Over the past few weeks, students have been:

  • Selecting pieces of work they are proud of across different subject areas
  • Reflecting on their learning and identifying goals for next term
  • Preparing scripts and practising how they will share their learning confidently with their families

The first 10 minutes will be led by students, showcasing their learning and goals. The final 10 minutes are for parents and teachers to discuss the report, ask questions, or raise any important matters. These conferences are a wonderful opportunity for families to celebrate their child’s growth, hear about their achievements, and gain insight into their learning journey. Bookings can be made online via Compass. Classroom teacher bookings are available under Student‑Led Conference Term 2. Sessions are 20 minutes:

Families may also book one additional conference with a specialist teacher if they would like further insight into their child’s learning in a specialist subject. Specialist bookings can be made under Specialist Student‑Led Conference Term 2. These sessions are 10 minutes to allow more families the opportunity to meet with specialist staff.

Please indicate if you require an interpreter when making your booking.

We look forward to seeing our students take pride in their learning and confidently share their achievements. If you have any questions, please contact the office or your child’s classroom teacher.

Volunteering at HPS – We’d Love Your Support

As we move toward the end of term and look ahead to next term, there are still plenty of opportunities for families to support our school through volunteering. We greatly value the time, energy and care that volunteers bring to our community — your involvement helps make our school a wonderful place for students to learn, grow and thrive.

If you are interested in becoming a volunteer at HPS, please remember that you will need:

  • A current Working With Children Check (WWCC)
  • Completion of the HPS Volunteer Induction and Training, either this year or last year

If you would like to express your interest in future volunteering opportunities, please complete the link below.

eSafety at HPS – Supporting Students in a Digital World

At Highvale PS, we are committed to ensuring that every student learns how to stay safe, responsible and confident online. In an ever‑evolving digital world, eSafety education is more important than ever, and we make it a priority to teach these skills explicitly across all year levels.

As part of our curriculum, students participate in digital incursions each term run by Inform & Empower. These sessions help students build the knowledge and habits they need to navigate technology safely and thoughtfully.

Below is an overview of this term’s learning focus:

  • Prep – Learning focused on active vs passive screen time. Students explored the difference between creating and consuming and how this helps them make clever screen‑time choices.
  • Years 1 & 2 – Students learned about balancing screen time with green time, the value of healthy sleep habits, and why it can be hard to put devices down.
  • Years 3 & 4 – Learning focused on how screen time affects feelings, wellbeing and sleep, and the importance of balancing screen time with green time.
  • Years 5 & 6 – Students explored how to build a healthy relationship with devices, the benefits of green time, the importance of sleep, and the impacts of excessive screen time.

Below are information sheets relevant to your child’s year level, along with some conversation starters you may wish to explore together at home.

By working in partnership, we can help our students develop safe, balanced and positive digital habits that will support them well beyond primary school.

Enjoy the rest of your week.

Kind regards,
